Atlanta metro (overlay)
An overlay of the Atlanta metropolitan region (404/770/678), assigned in 2001 as relief for the exhausted 678 code but not activated for customer numbers until 2010. As of the 2020s it is the primary code with prefixes still available for new assignment.
Status, dates and counts are read from NumberResearch (NANPA / CNAC / FCC records). Assignment records show initial assignees, not the carrier serving a number today.
Where 470 is
Entire Atlanta metropolitan region — the combined 404 (inside I-285) and 770 (outside I-285) numbering plan area..
Communities served wholly or partly by 470:
Same footprint as 404/770/678; no distinct geography of its own.
How it relates to other codes
The codes 470 was split from, spawned, or shares its area with. A split divides the map and changes some numbers; an overlay shares the same ground and changes none — what's the difference?

How full it is
